CANSEARCH EMERGENCY FUND TO HELP FAMILIES

In order to allow all patients of the Pediatric Oncology and Hematology Unit of the HUG to have access to treatments and medicines that are sometimes expensive and not reimbursed by health insurance in Switzerland, a CANSEARCH Emergency Fund for the support of families will be created. The initial amount of CHF 50’000 will help to obtain these. It could also allow the children to receive certain innovative treatments which are sometimes not available in our country (Phase I-II studies).

POSITION OF DOCTOR SPECIALIZED IN THE FOLLOW-UP OF CANCER SURVIVORS

The survival rate of children with cancer in Switzerland is improving year after year, reaching more than 80% overall, but unfortunately this evolution is burdened for survivors of pediatric cancer by many side effects. In this context, a specialized medical follow-up is necessary until adulthood. To this end, a follow-up consultation for survivors at the HUG will be strengthened, thanks to the hiring of a doctor, Dr. Fabienne Gumy-Pause, whose task will be to continue and perpetuate this support.
