Study of the ATM Gene in Neuroblastoma, explanations
- Neuroblastoma is the most common type of extra-cranial tumor in young children representing 8 to 10% of all pediatric cancers.
- The tumor’s behavior is quite variable, going from spontaneous regression to highly aggressive types, metastatic, resistant to all therapies from the start.
- The prognosis for these types of NB with high risks of relapse is very poor with a survival rate of about 40% and this despite very intense treatment. Recently, the CANSEARCH oncogenetics lab team lab were able to show that the loss of the ATM gene in the tumor played an essential role in the aggressiveness of certain forms of this disease.
- The aim of this project is to study the role of this gene as well as others located in a same chromosomal region in order to have a better understanding of the aggressive behavior of the disease and develop new therapeutic strategies, which are best suited and more effective
