The CANSEARCH Foundation is pleased to fund Dr. Nicolas Waespe, a hematologist-pediatric oncologist and associate at the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine in Berne, where the Swiss Childhood Cancer Registry is located.

The collaboration concerns two projects: the project “BioLink, a contribution to the networking of biobanks for research purposes” to link the Swiss Childhood Cancer Registry in Berne, the BaHOP in Geneva (“Biobank for Hematology and Oncology in Pediatrics “) and the tumor tissue bank based in Zurich, to provide researchers with clinical and genetic data on children who have been diagnosed with cancer or who will be diagnosed in the future.

The second project is a study on the long-term toxicity of some children who have been diagnosed with cancer. This study called GECCOS (“Genetic risks for Complications in Children after Oncological Treatment in Switzerland”), which is related to our biobank project, will focus on the analysis of genetic risk factors for long-term complications.
